When Was The Last Time You Picked Up a Book?

March 2, 2011

Today was Read Across America Day sponsored by the National Education Association. It’s an annual event held every March 2nd that encourages children to read and celebrates the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

Activities for children of all ages are planned in various communities around the United States, with elected officials, celebrities, community leaders and parents getting involved. On the NEA’s website there are numerous tools for teachers and parents to get their children involved.

So what does this have to do with a Podcasting class or the environment? Without the education of America’s children, we can not count on them to help with future environmental (and many other) problems. Reading allows for the creation of imaginative thinking, problem-solving and reasoning skills and a myriad of other talents that help people to look at the world in a different way and try to fix the troubles around them. (Not to mention think of exciting audiocasts and podcasts!)

For Read Across America Day, I’m reading Jacques Plante: The Man Who Changed The Face Of Hockey by Todd Denault…. what are you reading?
